Government involvement

The Pyjama Foundation is supported with recurrent funding by the Queensland
Government’s Department of Child Safety, which is dedicated to protecting
Queensland’s children and young people, and ensuring they are safe from abuse.
Children coming into foster or alternative care are of different ages, cultural
and religious backgrounds and the department endeavours to help them retain
their connection and sense of personal identity.
Carers provide safe and supportive environments for vulnerable children and
young people some for one or two nights, a few months or even years. Many of the
children are suffering from trauma and need special nurturing so that they can
begin to regain their sense of self worth and confidence.
