The
Pyjama Foundation offers a learning-based mentoring program free of
charge to children in foster care. The Love of Learning Program includes
a literacy module and the Shell Numeracy Module, and it is implemented
by community volunteers – our Pyjama Angels. Pyjama Angels are
interviewed, screened, trained and then matched with a child who has
been referred to the program. Together they read books aloud, play
educational games and engage in other fun, learning based activities.
As well as improving the children’s learning outcomes, Pyjama Angels are broadening their networks in the community. The success of the program is because of the beautiful, positive relationships that develop between the child and their Pyjama Angel.
